Im Aufbruch aller sozialen, politischen und technischen Wirklichkeiten gründete sich das Staatliche Bauhaus in Weimar - vor einhundert Jahren - auf den Visionen eines Manifests. Heute: Verloren im feierlichen Sektrausch des Bauhaus-Jubiläums und in Katerstimmung einer außer Kontrolle geratenen Moderne, suchen wir erneut nach einem solchen Anker, nach gemeinsamen Visionen, nach etwas Manifestem.

Vor einem halben Jahr hat die Initiative Horizonte angefangen, sich gemeinsam mit anderen Studierenden in Form eines kritisch-wissenschaftlichen und kreativ-produzierenden, experimentellen Werkstattseminars auf diese Suche zu begeben: Auf eine Suche nach gemeinsamen Zielen, und deren prospektiver Verbindlichkeit, nach Mündigkeit in einer zunehmend hyperflexiblen, hyperindividualistischen Gesellschaft, nach Sensibilität für die Relevanz des eigenen Schaffens - nach einer gemeinsamen Position und Haltung für uns und unsere Universität. Wir haben fakultäts- und fachübergreifend mit dem Versuch begonnen, die Vielfältigkeit der Universität mit eigenen, individuellen Positionen zu verknüpfen, haben daraus Inhalte generiert und diese versucht „handgreiflich zu machen“ (lat.: manifestus). Zusammen sind wir gewandert, haben diskutiert, gebastelt, gezweifelt, gestritten.

Wir fordern dazu auf, die Inhalte, Prozesse, Themen, Ergebnisse und Fragestellungen der Seminarwerkstatt weiterzuentwickeln, zu hinterfragen, anzugreifen oder darauf mit eigenen Thesen, Ideen, Kunstwerken oder neuen Appellen zu antworten.

A century ago, through the mist of the new political, social and technical realities, the Staatliches Bauhaus Weimar was founded on the grounds and visions of a manifesto. Today: We feel lost between the sparkling jubilance of the centenary and an unpleasant malaise of the various unpredictable side-effects, modern evolution has brought along it’s way. More than ever, we feel the urge for new certainties, common visions, for something manifest.

More than half a year ago, we started to substantiate our strive for shared goals, prospective liability and new modes of manifestos within our initiative for architectural discourse: Horizonte. Within the preliminaries for the Bauhaus-centenary at our university in Weimar, we initiated a student-organized seminar-format, a series of lectures and workshops, to critically analyze and to creatively readjust the concept of the manifesto. On our way, we have been hiking, discussing, fighting, laughing, drinking, dancing and heading towards new forms of maturity within our hyper-flexible, super-dynamic, digitizing and rapidly-changing society.

Yet our journey has not come to an end - we call for ideas, artworks, theses, critical analyses and answers to the intermediate results, topics and questions we have collected so far.

Einreichung eines Abstracts (200 Wörter) und einer Kurzbiographie (max. 50 Wörter) auf Deutsch oder Englisch bis zum 19.04.2019 über horizonte@archit.uni-weimar.de. Bereits weiterentwickeltes Material kann gerne mitgesendet werden. Nach der redaktionellen Durchsicht ist die endgültige Ausarbeitung der Beiträge für den 31.05.2019 geplant. Die Beiträge sollten unveröffentlicht sein und können als Essays (max. 4000 Wörter), Projekte, Fotografien oder in jeder anderen druckbaren Form eingereicht werden (erläuternde Texte max. 1000 Wörter).

An abstract (200 words) and a short biography (max 50 words) in German or English can be sent until 19.04.2019 via horizonte@archit.uni-weimar.de. Already further developed material can be sent along too. After the editorial review, the deadline for the final contributions is planned for the 31.05.2019. Contributions should be unpublished and may be submitted as essays (up to 4000 words), projects, photographs or in any other printable form (explanatory texts up to 1000 words).

Ausgehend vom Ort des Geschehens haben wir uns im ersten Teil des Seminars retroaktiv mit Manifesten im Bauhaus Kontext auseinandergesetzt: Welche der damals verhandelten und neu entworfenen Fragen, Forderungen und Utopien treiben uns auch heute noch um? Können diese in unseren heutigen Kontext übertragen werden?

Through the lense of our historic and geographic context, we started to retroactively convert theses and statements from manifestos into our present. Which topics remain unsolved? Which may still contain guidance for present and future challenges? What questions arise from these and how much should be left behind?
