Frequently Asked Questions:
All BUW students have the opportunity to found an initiative. To do so, at least five people must join forces and submit an application to the StuKo. If the StuKo finds your concept convincing and no similar initiative already exists, nothing stands in the way of its implementation.
You must be aware that the money for the initiatives does not just come from anywhere. The student body contributes a small part of their semester fee, which the StuKo is then allowed to distribute. You should therefore make sure that your initiative has a benefit for the students. In principle, many things are possible: for example, a creative or sporting initiative. The only important thing is that you convince us that there is a genuine interest in your idea within the student body.
If you are newly founded and are submitting an Ini application for the first time, you must submit the Ini application and a self-presentation of the initiative. We also require you to submit a budget for the coming financial year, in which you give us a detailed breakdown of the tasks you are planning. Remember to fill in everything truthfully and completely. Otherwise your application will be delayed or rejected immediately. We do not need any further application documents because you will be presenting yourself in person to the StuKo.
As an existing initiative, you must also submit a statement of accounts for the previous financial year, in which all income and expenditure (also from/to third parties) is recorded. In addition, initiatives based in the M18 building should present their keys to the management so that they can be fully checked.
In your application, you set out which expenses you are planning for the coming year. The StuKo then decides which expenses are considered sensible and which are not. This forms the basis for how much money is made available to you in the financial year. Depending on the budget situation, the amount approved may correspond to your expectations or you may receive less funding if the budget is limited.
After you have submitted your application, it will be checked for completeness and accuracy by the Initiative Coordination Unit. Has all the required information been provided? Are you at least five people? Is there no similar initiative? If everything is in order, you will receive an appointment for the StuKo initiative meeting at the end of October. At this meeting, you will have 15 to 20 minutes to introduce yourself and explain your concept. The StuKo will probably ask you a few questions. The StuKo will then decide on your initiative status. If everything goes smoothly, you will receive the news that you are officially recognized as a StuKo initiative after a few days.
However, a decision on your business plan will not be made until later. The budget meeting usually takes place two to three weeks later. At this meeting, the entire student body budget is determined, including the funds for your initiative. As soon as the budget is finalized, you will receive information on how much money is available to you.
As an initiative, you are part of the student body and are therefore allowed to use its infrastructure. This includes our homepage and the premises of M18, the House of Students. You also have the opportunity to state in your application how much money you need for your projects in the coming financial year. The StuKo will then decide how much money is available to you.
In addition to these benefits, there are also obligations that you must fulfill as an initiative. These are set out in detail in the initiative guidelines and can be found there.
