The Infrastructure unit has big plans for our building in 2025. In addition to the new key system, some rooms will gradually be given a new coat of paint and the floor will be professionally repaired here and there.
Since August 2024: Inventory and planning
Over the past few weeks, we in the department and the StuKo have been thinking intensively about what measures are needed in the building. The meeting room in particular needs our urgent attention: the floor is damaged and the wall paint is peeling. These problems are our top priority. We have therefore already passed on our concerns to the property management and submitted an application to the heritage protection authority, which has since been approved.
What is planned for the meeting room?
The meeting room will continue to be used as such – a room for everyone. Numerous initiatives, departments and the student representatives will have space here for their regular meetings. In addition, the room will serve as a study and exchange space for up to 15 students outside of meeting times. Our aim is to create an additional workspace for the university, as such rooms are already in short supply.
Modernising the bathrooms
The bathrooms on the ground floor are also on our to-do list. In addition to a fresh coat of paint, the walls are to be freed from graffiti and a new lighting concept is to create a more inviting atmosphere. The barrier-free bathroom is to be comprehensively modernised. We have intensively analysed the relevant DIN standards in order to make the bathroom more accessible. In particular, we want to replace and optimise the aids for wheelchair users that have been destroyed. We are also planning to purchase and install a new baby changing table.
From 07 March 2025: Renovation of the meeting room
We have decided to commission a professional company to renovate the floor in the meeting room. They will sand and wax the floor several times to create a durable and high-quality surface. We expect an exact date shortly. Once the work on the floor has been completed, we will take care of the walls. Firstly, the old paint will be scraped or sanded off. As soon as the walls and ceiling have been completely stripped, we will apply a special lime paint. This ensures that the paint adheres in the long term and does not peel off again.
The new lighting concept in the conference room will be a particular highlight. It is intended to create a pleasant feel-good atmosphere, as the previous lamps were more reminiscent of a warehouse or conveyed a monotonous office atmosphere.
From August 2025: Renovation of the bathrooms on the 1st floor
Following the renovation of the meeting room, we would like to renovate the bathrooms on the ground floor of the building. The work is deliberately planned for the summer holidays, as the building is less frequented during this time and we therefore have more free space for the renovation.
The plan is to repaint all the walls and ceilings. White is currently an option, as it makes the rooms appear brighter, but the final colour has yet to be chosen. In addition, graffiti and other dirt will be removed from the tiles and objects. Damaged or missing tiles will be replaced and the ventilation in the smaller bathroom will be repaired as it is currently not working properly.
The accessible bathroom will finally be completely barrier-free. All aids will either be replaced or repaired. In addition, new mirrors will be installed, a modern changing table will be fitted and a new lighting concept will be introduced to create a pleasant and inviting atmosphere.
And now we are looking for YOU !!
We have a lot planned and look forward to your support! In addition to the projects already mentioned, the Infrastructure Department is busy all year round keeping the building in good shape. We are happy to take on board the wishes and suggestions of our students and you are always welcome to give us your input. IN ADDITION, WE NEED YOUR HELP with the above-mentioned renovation work. Every project requires a lot of effort, and the more helping hands we have, the faster we can achieve our goals.
