Old and new students: Good luck with your studies!

Valentina Doerre Torres

Who am I?

Hello! I am Valentina (I use all pronouns) and am a master’s student in
the Media Faculty. I come from the US, but I am half German and half
Colombian. Because of this, I feel very at home in Weimar with its
international, but cozy feeling. Earlier this year, I finished a training
in somatic movement: I am interested in how we engage with our bodies and
can become aware of little insights that our bodies are communicating with
us all the time! I am using this knowledge in my dancing practice, but also
in my studies of Human Computer Interaction: looking at how our bodies
interact with the technology and data we are surrounded with all the time.
Outside my studies, I love spending time in nature around Weimar, making
music, cooking, going to ecstatic dance, hanging out with my roommates, and
eating Vanilla Ice cream or cake from Koriat.

Why am I running?

A lot has changed in the world since I began studying in Weimar. This
naturally impacts all of us as students. I am running for Stuko to bring
conversations to our student body on how we can better support our
international community. I’m asking myself, how can we support each other
in sharing our consciousness of the world around us as students? How can we
communally do this? I am running because I would like to help foster a
community of care within the student body and in Weimar.

If you had the choice, which cafeteria meal would you be and why?

If I were a cafeteria meal, I would be milk-rice or Knödel with
Waldbeerensauce… A dessert for lunch??? The first time I saw this option,
I was both excited and confused, but I came to enjoy the excuse to have a
sweet meal very much. This warmness, I think, accurately describes me. I
like hugs and cuddling – even if it’s not exactly the right place or the
right time…. (But is there really a wrong time for dessert?)… Maybe
it’s wishful thinking, and it’s perhaps not everyone’s choice moment for
sweetness, but wouldn’t it be nice to have a cozy space in M18 – to take a
break after lunch and cuddle with friends?
